Should we let animals go extinct? Personally, my answer is a definite no.

Animals have lived on this planet since the dawn of time. Animals are the original ‘owners’ of Earth. However, we humans ruin their lives as if we own the planet. I sometimes ask myself, “Does our home belongs to us or belongs to animals like cockroaches?”

A majority of animals do not affect humans. (POINT) A lot of animals do not attack people. In fact, animals usually only attack when they feel threatened. Many fishes in the sea do not interact with us during our lifetime. However, we destroy their lives by polluting the oceans. (EXAMPLE)

There are some animals that are important to the ecosystem. If we let crucial animals like bees go extinct, many plants may die. This will cause our ecosystem to collapse as many living things, including us, need plants to survive. However, humans are very avaricious.

Humans destroy a lot of animal’s homes. A lot of factories are burning the biggest rainforest on Earth: The Amazon Rainforest. When they start to destroy a little part of the rainforest, they have caused almost four thousand species of animals to lose their homes. Yet, we are destroying the original owner of Earth and we are the real predators.

Some animals play a big role in humans’ lives. Certain domesticated animals serve as food and labor for humans. For example, humans eat a ton of livestock like pigs, cows, and sheep. If we let those animals go extinct, we would not be able to eat meat. Hence, we should not let those animals go extinct.

Even so, some animals are nuisances to us. There are now a lot of Desert Locusts that are eating the crops in northern Africa. Because of this, most of the lands in Africa are deserts, thus, there is not a lot of food in Africa. What is worse, these locusts are spreading to other parts of the world. If we do not exterminate all the Desert Locust, places like India and China will be the next Africa.

Some may say that animals that pose a danger to humans or are nuisances should go extinct. However, I think that even those animals should be kept as we do not know how they might affect the ecosystem. Furthermore, those animals are a minority as the majority of animals do not harm humans. Hence, we should try to keep as many animals as possible.
