How to write a discursive essay
A discursive essay is a type of writing that explores a few different perspectives.
E.g. “Parks are good for our community.” Do you agree? Why or why not?

Creative vs Discursive
Creative essays — like storybooks, about an experience
Discursive essay — like an article, talk about your opinions
E.g. Articles about COVID — Why is COVID bad?

Introduction
E.g. Some of my best childhood memories are of my family and I having fun at a park. Hence, they hold a special place in my heart. However, are parks truly useful to the community? In this essay, I will discuss why I feel that parks can be very good for a community.

Rhetorical question — A question that you ask even though you know the answer.
E.g. Advertisement about a cream that can help you grow hair. Have you ever lost a lot of hair before?

3 reasons why you agree (1 paragraph each)
1. Parks are good for the environment and pollution — e.g. Trees can clean air
2. Parks are good places to have fun — e.g. Children and adults can play
3. Parks are good for local wildlife — e.g. Good home for animals

1 reason why you may disagree (1 paragraph)
1. Parks are breeding grounds for pests — e.g. Mosquitoes, rats

How you write a point:
PEEL — Point, Explain, Example, Link
E.g.
Parks are good for the community because to are good for the environment and help to curb pollution. (POINT) Parks contain a lot of trees that can help to clean air pollution and produce fresh air. Trees can also help reduce noise pollution. (EXPLAIN) According to the Arbor Day Foundation, in one year a mature tree will absorb more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange. Since carbon dioxide is a harmful gas, the trees in parks are extremely useful because they can remove it from the air. (EXAMPLE) Hence, parks are great for helping the environment. (LINK)
